Steel Outlasts Everything Else on a Farm Building
Asphalt on a barn roof in Alberta is a losing bet. Freeze-thaw cycles crack it, hail dents it, and you are re-roofing inside 15 years. Wood rots where snow sits. Fibreglass fades and gets brittle. Steel does not do any of those things.
A well-installed metal roof handles everything Central Alberta throws at it — minus-40 winters, chinook swings, heavy snow loads, summer hail — and keeps doing it for 40 to 60 years without drama. The upfront cost is higher, but when you divide it over the life of the roof, steel usually costs less per year. That is before you factor in zero re-roofing cycles.
Built for Alberta’s Snow Loads
Steel sheds snow naturally and will not buckle under the 1.5 to 2.5 kPa ground snow loads common across Central Alberta. We specify the right purlin spacing and panel gauge for your building so the structure performs exactly as it should through our worst winters.
Stands Up to Chinooks & Summer Storms
Mechanically fastened panels will not lift in the chinooks that strip cheaper installations off farm buildings every spring. We specify fastener patterns based on your site’s wind exposure — not a one-size-fits-all guess.
40 to 60 Years — Often More
Painted Galvalume panels typically outlast the buildings underneath them. Most manufacturer coatings carry 25 to 40 year warranties. You are re-roofing a barn every generation, not every decade. That is a fundamentally different financial calculation.
Almost Nothing to Do After Install
Once it is on, it is on. No annual treatments, no repainting, no checking for cracked or missing shingles. Clean the gutters and inspect the flashings every few years — that is genuinely the full maintenance list for a properly installed metal roof.
New Roof Over Your Existing Steel
If your corrugated steel is worn but the structure underneath is sound, we can often install directly over top. No tear-off, no disposal fees, and the building stays closed and operational throughout the job — a significant cost saving on many ag projects.
Condensation Managed From the Start
Livestock buildings are hard on roofs from the inside out. We design ventilation and underlayment systems that handle the moisture load from animals. This is not an afterthought — it is built into the roof design before the first panel goes on.
Every Type of Agricultural Structure
From a single-stall horse shelter to a 20,000 sq ft commercial feed operation — if it is a farm or ranch building that needs a roof, we have done it. We handle new builds and re-roofs, partial jobs and complete top-to-bottom exteriors.

We Can Make Our Own Panels on site.
Most roofing contractors order their panels from a supplier and wait. Two to three weeks is typical, and that is before weather delays or backorders enter the picture. We do it differently. Our roll-forming equipment comes to your site — we form panels on your property, sometimes right on the roof itself, cut to exact length as we go. No waiting on a delivery, no panels damaged in transport.
Agricultural / R-Panel
The go-to for ag construction. Deep ribs provide exceptional strength across wide spans. Installs on roofs as low as 1:12 pitch with the right underlayment. Available in 26ga and 29ga — we almost always recommend 26ga for barns and sheds.
Corrugated Metal
Classic wave profile — economical, fast to install, and it has been working on farm buildings for over a century for good reason. Available in 26ga and 29ga for both roofing and siding applications.
Snaplock Standing Seam
No exposed fasteners means no penetration points in your roof surface at all. The right choice for riding arenas and any building where leaks would cause real problems. Available in 24ga or 26ga, widths from 12 to 20 inches.
Mechanically Seamed
Best choice for low-slope or nearly flat ag roofs under 3:12 pitch. Panels are seamed together on-site creating a fully continuous weather barrier across the entire roof plane. Available in 22ga, 24ga, or 26ga.
Board & Batten Siding
For buildings where appearance matters — equestrian facilities, farm homestays, show barns. Steel panels formed to look like traditional wood siding, without the rot, splitting, or repainting every few years.
All Trim & Flashing In-House
Ridge caps, eave trim, gable flashing, door and window surround — all fabricated in our Red Deer shop to match your panel profile exactly. No mismatched trim sourced from a second supplier.
Our biggest advantage
We Don’t Wait on a Supplier. We Build It Ourselves.
There is one thing that separates us from most other roofing companies in Central Alberta: we have our own metal fabrication shop in Red Deer. When you hire us, we are not placing an order and hoping it arrives before your weather window closes. We are rolling your panels the week we need them.
For large or remote ag jobs, we can bring the equipment to you. On-site roll-forming means panels cut to exact length on your property — better fit, no transport damage, no leftover offcuts to deal with.
- Faster schedules — no 2 to 3 week supplier lead times
- Exact custom lengths — cut to your dimensions, not standard stock
- One crew, one call — we supply, fabricate, and install everything
- Mobile forming available — we bring the roll-former to your site
- Lower cost — no supplier markup passed through to you

Agricultural Roofing — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best gauge of metal for a barn or machine shed?+
For most Alberta agricultural buildings, 26 gauge is the right choice. It is strong enough for standard purlin spacing on barns, sheds, and livestock shelters, and it is the most cost-effective option at that performance level. It is what we use on the majority of our ag jobs.
29 gauge is lighter and less expensive — acceptable for wall siding on a small accessory building where spans are short, but we would not use it on a roof.
For large riding arenas, commercial operations, or any building with purlin spacing over five feet, we move up to 24 gauge. The right answer depends on your specific structure and we will specify it properly when we look at the building in person.
Can you install new metal roofing over my existing worn steel roof?+
Often yes, and it is worth asking us about before you assume a full tear-off is needed.
Installing new panels directly over existing corrugated steel — sometimes called a recover or re-roof — is a common and cost-effective approach for agricultural buildings. There is no tear-off labour, no disposal fees, and your building stays completely closed and weather-tight while the work is being done. On a large barn or shop that can represent a meaningful saving.
Before we quote it that way we take a close look at the existing structure to make sure the purlins are sound and there is nothing underneath that would cause problems down the road. In many cases we can assess this over the phone or using satellite imagery before we even come out — just give us a call at (403) 896-4701 and describe what you have.
If an in-person visit is needed to give you a proper answer, we will come out at no charge. Either way you will get a straight answer on whether a recover makes sense for your building or whether a full replacement is the better call.
How far will you travel for agricultural roofing jobs?+
Throughout all of Central Alberta. We work regularly in Lacombe, Ponoka, Innisfail, Stettler, Drumheller, Rocky Mountain House, Wetaskiwin, and the surrounding rural areas. Remote properties are not a problem — we are used to working in the field.
Travel time is factored into the quote upfront and clearly itemized as a separate line. There are no surprise charges on the final invoice. Call us at (403) 896-4701 and we will give you a straight answer about your location.
How long does it take to roof an agricultural building?+
A standard barn or machine shed in the 2,000 to 3,000 square foot range typically takes 2 to 4 days of installation once materials are on-site. A larger riding arena or commercial agricultural building generally runs 1 to 2 weeks depending on complexity.
One significant advantage of our in-house fabrication shop is lead time. We do not wait on supplier delivery. Once a project is confirmed, materials are usually ready and a firm start date is locked in within the same week for most standard jobs.
What colours are available for agricultural metal panels?+
Our standard ready and in stock palette includes white, regent grey, charcoal, black, and galvalume (bare silver steel), along with a full range of colours that can be ordered on demand. Painted panels carry a 40 year manufacturer coating warranty.
For buildings where curb appeal matters — equestrian facilities, show barns, farm accommodations — we also install board and batten and woodgrain print siding panels that look nothing like a typical farm building.
What does agricultural metal roofing cost in Alberta?+
Every agricultural roofing project is different — the size of the building, the panel profile, the pitch, site access, and whether there is existing material to work around all affect the final number. Because of that we do not publish pricing, and any quote you find online for ag roofing is too general to be useful for your specific situation.
What we can tell you is that we work hard to keep our pricing competitive, and our in-house fabrication shop means we are not passing a supplier’s markup through to you.
For many projects we can give you a ballpark figure over the phone or based on satellite imagery — just give us a call at (403) 896-4701 with the basic details of your building and we can often have a conversation right then. For a firm written quote, we will come out to your property at no charge. There is no obligation and no pressure — just a straight answer on what your project would cost.
How do you handle condensation and moisture in livestock buildings?+
This is one of the most important details on any livestock structure and one that many installers overlook entirely. Livestock buildings generate significant interior moisture from animal respiration. Without proper ventilation and a correctly specified underlayment, that moisture condenses on the underside of the roof panels and drips back into the building — causing health issues for animals and rot in the structure over time.
We design every livestock project with appropriate ridge venting, eave ventilation, and an underlayment system matched to the moisture load of your specific building use. This is built into the roof design from the start, not added as an afterthought. We will walk through your building’s specific use when we do the on-site visit.
